Design

Front end grille

The front end grille is fundamental in our car design. The 407 is no different with a refined single air inlet that boasts a bold chrome finish.

Panoramic windscreen

The forward-mounted panoramic windscreen gives you a whole new perspective - providing you and your passengers an invigorating sensation of light and freedom.

Dynamic lines

Peugeot's stylists have highlighted the pure, sharp lines of the 407, using shade and light to create a sculpture in motion. Balance is created by the long bonnet and compact rear, which project the passenger compartment forward. The side, with clean, taut lines, has a distinct ridge along the length of the car, lending it strength.

Rear

The rear of the new 407 draws its inspiration from the natural sportiness of the coupe. The new wrap-around bumper with its chrome border incorporates a 'diffuser' look which contributes to its dynamism. The tail lights, which have been completely redesigned, generate a new signature, day and night.

Leather trim

The plush, comfortable seats have been ergonomically designed to ensure everyone enjoys a first class ride. Long seat cushions and a wide range of settings set a new standard in comfort. For added luxury, SV models benefit from leather trim (optional on ST), along with electric and heated front seats.

Cruise control + speed limiter

The cruise control function is a handy feature not just for long freeway journeys, but to keep you safe around town. It incorporates a clever speed limiter function to prevent you from exceeding a preset speed limit. All functions are intuatively accessed from a steering column mounted stalk.

Dual-zone climate control

To ensure everyone enjoys maximum comfort, the dual zone climate control allows you and your front passenger to adjust the temperature and air flow independently. Connected to a solar radiation sensor, the system also helps mitigate the effects of moving between bright sunlight  and darkened areas such as tunnels. SR models are fitted with single zone climate control.

Rear sunblinds

For the added comfort of those in the rear, SV models have roll-up sunblinds in the side doors and a retracting blind on the rear window to divert the sun's rays.

Dashboard

Sit in the driver's seat and you'll soon notice that everything you need is right in front of you. The dash is the nerve centre of the 407 and houses all the chrome-edged dials, buttons and switches that sit seamlessly on stylish materials including the new 'piano black' on selected models.

Tyre pressure sensors

Under-inflated tyres are a well-known cause for accidents. To protect you, the 407 is equipped with tyre pressure sensors. The principle is simple: each wheel has a sensor which regularly measures variations in the pressure and temperature of the tyre. It detects any anomalies and alerts you straight away.

Multimedia

The optional RT4 multimedia system gives voice to your 407: it is equipped with a 30GB hard disk, an MP3 compatible CD reader, a hands-free GSM telephone, a GPS satellite navigation system, a 10GB audio Jukebox function, an emergency call service and localised roadside assistance. All the functions of the RT4 can be accessed using a 3D 16/9 colour screen, as well as controls on the steering  column stalk  and voice recognition. (access to these services requires an operational SIM card with PIN number entered, placed in the RT4) Not available on SR models.

Electronic parking assistance

Incorporated into the front and rear bumpers of the 407 (ST and SV) are sensors which measure the proximity of the car to other objects when parking. A series of audio and visual signals, which progressively increase in frequency, help you to judge distances in all parking situations.

Electric folding door mirrors

The 407 thinks of everything. To help avoid unwanted knocks and scrapes to your mirrors when the car is parked, the 407's mirrors automatically fold in when you lock the vehicle (ST and SV).

Xenon headlights

The Xenon headlights fitted to the 407 SV give off a brighter, whiter light twice the intensity of a standard halogen globe. Producing a much wider beam, they use less power and last longer, reduce eye fatigue and pick out colours more clearly.

JBL premium sound

World renowned sound equipment supplier, JBL, has created a tailor-made premium sound system for the 407 (standard on SV) featuring 10 speakers plus a subwoofer. The result is pure sound reproduction.

AMVAR electronic suspension

A variable electronic suspension system (AMVAR), standard on SV models, independently controls each wheel's suspension and adapts the shock absorbers to your driving style. The result is a car that sets the standard for road holding and gives you excellent maneuverability.

By offering you both manual and automatic gearboxes, the new Peugeot 407 can be adapted to suit all your requirements. One thing is sure: there is all the pleasure you could want.

HDi diesel engines

Peugeot's experience and ingenuity is evident in the quality of its engines. The 407 is exclusively available with our famed HDi diesel engine technology - a 2.0 HDi turbo diesel and the awe-inspiring 2.7 V6 HDi twin turbo diesel. Both engines are fitted with the FAP particle filter, a self-cleaning system which dramatically reduces the particles or black smoke emitted by diesel engines to barely measurable levels.

Road holding

A rich motor sport heritage provides Peugeot with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in steering and suspension and helps explain its reputation for excellence in road holding. The 407 is fitted with an exclusive drop-linked hub carrier double wishbone front suspension system, providing very precise steering. At the rear, multi-arm type suspension with inclined dampers increases the quality of guidance and enhances stability. In combination, all the elements of the steering and suspension system ensure excellent driving characteristics.

Transmissions

Depending on choice of engine, you have the choice between two advanced transmissions: a slick 6 speed manual or a smooth 6 speed Tiptronic automatic.

Twin turbo V6 HDi diesel

Utilising the very latest common rail injection system and advanced variable geometry twin turbochargers and our FAP Particle Filter, the V6 HDi, with a massive 440Nm torque for serious pulling power, has been engineered to combine driving pleasure with impressive fuel-efficiency.

With a reinforced structure that doesn't compromise on performance, peace of mind comes standard with every 407. To protect you, this high-tech car provides both active and passive safety features. From its high performance suspension, intelligent airbags and advanced braking and stability systems, the 407 will keep you as safe as possible.

ESP

Our advanced Electronic Stability Program (ESP) works by continually comparing information sent by the steering sensors to detect the start of any understeer or oversteer. Within a fraction of a second it will return the 407 to its initial trajectory. The system can also apply the brakes or reduce engine power to limit wheel spin when traction is poor.

Airbags

Occupant protection is assured by up to 9 airbags: 2 front, 2 front side, 2 full-length curtain (all models) plus 2 rear side (ST and SV) and 1 driver's knee airbag (SV).

Advanced brakes

Excellent road holding, effective braking and superb balance are the major elements of the 407 active safety, instilling and reinforcing driver confidence. The braking system gives added reassurance and combines several functions. ABS controls vehicle trajectory during emergency braking. Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBFD) controls braking wheel by wheel for greater effectiveness, particularly when braking on bends. Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) automatically applies maximum braking power in emergency situations.

Passenger safety cell

For optimal protection of the passenger compartment, the 407 is built with programmed deformation. This offers maximum absorption and dissipation in the event of impact. Further protection from front impact is provided by the installation of a second aluminium absorption bar at the front of the engine sub-frame. Finally, strengtheners in the front and rear doors improves the absorption of side impacts and contributes to improved strengthening of the vehicle as a whole.

Our HDi turbo diesel engines have a common rail direct injection system and the world first FAP Particle Filter. These mean that you'll not only use less fuel, but you'll put out fewer emissions as well. Just one of the ways we're working towards reducing our impact on the environment.

FAP particle filter

Pioneered by Peugeot, the FAP particle filter is a very effective emission control system incorporated within HDi technology. Peugeot was the first manufacturer to fit its vehicles with this system. The filter is a self-cleaning system which reduces the particles, or black smoke, normally emitted by diesel engines to barely measurable levels.

Consumption and emissions

Peugeot are committed to developing technologies to reduce both fuel consumption and emissions. Which is why the 407 range is now exclusively powered by HDi diesel. Our 2.0 HDi turbo diesel engine has a combined fuel consumption of just 5.7 l/100km (with manual transmission). That gets you over 1,100km from its 66 litre tank. Its CO2 emissions are a low 150 g/km.

Recycling

Worried about landfil? So are we. That's why at least 90% of every new Peugeot is recyclable, including the metals, glass, fluids, plastic materials and rubber. And we're well on the way to creating the fully recyclable car.

HDi diesel technology

Peugeot's world renowned HDi diesel technology, with its "Common Rail" injection system reduces fuel consumption and pollutant emissions while harnessing additional power for a real driving experience.

Carbon sink

Our commitment to the environment extends beyond our cars. In 1998, we set up a major ecological sponsorship by helping to create a 'carbon sink' (an area of plant life specifically set aside and developed to absorb atmospheric CO2) in the Amazon. Over 2 million trees representing 50 different species have been planted, which will allow scientists to study the relationship between reforestation, absorption of CO2 and climate control.

Fuel economy world records

Peugeot is the proud holder of two Guinness World Records for fuel economy, both set using HDi diesel technology in the harsh Australian conditions. Our first world record is the furthest distance travelled on a single tank - 2,348km (Melbourne to Rockhampton) from a 70 litre tank. Our second record set in a 308 which broke the record we already held, is for round Australia fuel economy. We travelled 14,580km averaging just 3.13 l/100km from the 1.6 HDi engine.
