Interior

In terms of safety, the 407 Touring is an innovative vehicle that has set a new benchmark in its category. It offers an outstanding level of active and passive safety features.

Active Safety

Active safety is always a major consideration and the 407 Touring works hard to put your mid at rest. Its road-holding is impeccable, thanks to ESP which maintains your cars balance in difficult situations by combining ABS, EBA, ASR, EBFD and DSC. The SV models also have AMVAR, an electronic suspension system which automatically adjusts suspension settings depending on road and driving conditions to deliver a smooth, assured ride.

Passive Safety

Passive safety is of paramount importance, which is why you and your passengers are protected by eight airbags. In addition, the front seats are fitted with active 'anti-whiplash' head restraints. In the rear, the 3 passengers have a comma shaped head restraint. Pre-tensioning seatbelts with force limiter are fitted to the front and outer rear seats.

The diesel engines in particular offer the performance you are used to from petrol powered cars with the added benefit of increased torque which provides maximum responsiveness from the engine no matter what speed you are travelling at or what gear you are in. At the same time, HDidiesel provides much better fuel economy and environmental benefits.

To complement any driving style, the 407 also comes with a range of innovative transmissions.

The 407 Touring is teeming with features that are easy to use. The centrally mounted display controls central locking, dual zone climate-control and electric rear seat child safety lock doors. There is also an onboard trip computer that displays multiple functions. It even tells you when your tyres need air!

For easy loading and unloading of gear, there is no lip on the tail-gate so items can be slid in and out with ease. The rear seats fold flat for a more useful storage area. The 407 Touring also has a split-opening tailgate, so you choose to open only the rear window instead of the whole tailgate for added convenience.

SV models come with leather seats which are electrically operated and heated at the front.

If anything's going to change the way you see things, it's the panoramic glass roof. It extends from the expansive windscreen almost seamlessly and emphasises the airy spaciousness of the 407 Touring to such a degree that you'll never look at an interior in the same way again. Park Distance Control aids reverse parking, while auto illuminating headlights and auto rain sensing wipers let you concentrate on the road ahead. Our HDi diesel engines are fitted with a pioneering particle filter (FAP) which works to collect and destroy the harmful particles that would otherwise escape into the environment - and the result is exhaust gas that actually contains less particles than the air supplied to the engine in urban areas.

These days communication plays a vital role in our lives, so it's more important than ever to keep our fingers on the pulse. The RT4 Multi Media System, available in the 407, is fully equipped with the technology to keep you ahead.

1. 16:9 7" colour screen
A colour screen that gives you the time, date, outside temperature and lets you know everything about the 407's major systems. 5 display shades can be selected.

2. Satellite navigation
The generously sized 30GB hard drive allows the system to store navigation maps for the majority of Australia without the need for a separate CD ROM, ensuring that maps are faster to load. The map can be displayed in 3D perspective, simulating a low level flight of the route with the horizon in perspective. In addition you can choose between a male and female voice to give you guidance instructions.

3. GSM hands free telephone
The RT4 contains a GSM telephone which is very simple to use. It also utilises voice recognition, or using a control stalk behind the steering wheel for complete hands free control. You can also send and receive SMS messages, and for maximum safety, they are read by voice synthesis, so that you don't take your eyes off the road.

4. Audio Jukebox
In addition to a tri-tuner radio system giving exceptional reception quality and a CD player, the RT4 is equipped with a 10 GB Jukebox, allowing you to store up to 170 hours of music (around 140 CDs) in your car. 6. Voice recognition and Fingertip control
